The Tied Adviser Years
Greig spent 22 years as a tied financial adviser with one of South Africa’s largest life insurance companies. During this time, he developed deep expertise in life cover, retirement planning, and estate planning — becoming highly trained in the intricacies of financial advice.
But there was a problem: as a tied adviser, he could only offer one company’s solutions. No matter how good the advice, the product had to come from a single provider

Greig’s philosophy has always been to lead with advice, not product. After COVID, he realised that to truly serve his clients’ best interests, he needed access to the entire market — not just one provider’s shelf.
2022 · A NEW CHAPTER
The Move to Open Architecture
Greig made the bold decision to leave the tied space and join Fairbairn Consult — an open-architecture brokerage within the Old Mutual Group. This means he now has access to the full South African market, allowing him to compare and recommend solutions from multiple providers based purely on what’s best for each client.
